EtsyCA

Etsy Canada has mentioned one of our Alberta Craft Alert articles again on both the Facebook page and their twitter. We are so super excited! They like us, they really do!

In case you're wondering, the article in question was this one, http://www.albertacraftalert.com/2012/03/the-number-one-way-to-improve-sales-at-craft-shows/

Food Porn

Went to Duchess last night with a good friend to check it out and to see the space we'll be renting for our craft show.

And...

I may have fallen in love with the place.

The food is amazing. Just amazing. We both had a sandwich (Marissa's was prosciutto and Gruyere cheese and mine was boiled egg, greens and pork pate) and a bowl of the French onion soup. And a dessert. The sandwiches were delicious, no question about that but the star? Definitely was the French onion soup (and the desserts, but we'll get to that in a minute). It was thick with onions and the broth was hearty and flavourful. It quite possibly is the best French onion soup in the city but I'm willing to test that theory if anyone has any other contenders.

The dessert. I had macaroons. Two of them. And then I had to buy some for later because... Wow. Like, just, wow. I finally see the hype. I finally get why macaroons are so popular because...Wow. They were light, creamy, and packed with flavour. If you go there, I totally recommend the macaroons.

Food Porn. Lemon, rose, and orange poppyseed macaroons.

The space is amazing, by the way. I'm super excited for our show. If you haven't already checked out our show, out Facebook even is here. So excited to see you there!

Random Silliness...

Random comment of the night to a friend: We're crafty and we have glue guns. We can do anything.

So true.

What's Going On

These past few weeks have been so crazy with school and work, not to mention the 2 new websites a friend and I are working on.

The first one, as I've mentioned before, is the Alberta Craft Alert. I think we've finalized the design of it and now are just building up the content. If you can think of any shows or markets we've missed, or if you are a crafter and want to be added to the crafter's profile page, visit the website and click on the Contact Us button on the side of the screen.

The second site is new and was necessary due to a new project we're working on. We are starting pop up craft shows in the Edmonton and Calgary areas. The first show is March 25 & 26 at 10720 124 Street in Edmonton. We'll be right next door to Duchess Bakery, one of the BEST bakeries in the city. Check out the website here. We also have a Facebook event, here.

We are so super excited by this! We've always wanted to show off Alberta talent and, by creating our own show, we are!

I'm not going to lie though. What with everything going on, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. i had my night class midterm on Tuesday night and work has been super busy. It's been super hectic, a bit emotional at the end of the day, but a lot of fun. I've been learning new things with school, work and the websites and I definitely am passionate about everything I'm doing. Just wish there was more time in the day though!

Looking For an Alberta Craft Show?

Alberta is a great province to live in. Low (relatively) cost of living, high wages, good jobs, and, something I bet you didn't know, an amazing arts and crafts community. Not a lot of people know this about Alberta though. To most, it's a province of industy, oil sands, and farming. The arts are lost in amongst all this. A friend and I have been wanting to showcase the other (softer) side of Alberta for some time now, as well as consolidate all the craft shows offered around the province into one site, and we came up with a new website.

This site will feature Alberta crafters and artists, craft shows around the province, and farmers markets. We will also be doing posts on craft show reviews; featured artists; sellers apps for Apple, Android, and Google; setting up and running an online business; and web marketing. Marissa, of Ever and Bliss, and the web marketing (evil) genius co-founder is a full time online marketer, communicator, and social media practioner and will be the one presenting the 101s of web marketing. Definitely a must read!

It is so hard sometimes, trying to find out what's going on in your own neighbourhood for craft sales, let alone trying to find out what's going on in other cities in the province. Planning out your year's craft show (whether vending or buying) can be frustrating and discouraging at times. That's why we're trying to get all the craft shows listed in one spot. As you can see, we've got a lot to get entered still, have patience! We hope to have a LOT more shows listed in the coming days/weeks. If there is a show that you think we've missed, please contact us and let us know!

If you're in Alberta and want to sign up to be a profiled crafter, please visit here and fill out the questionnaire linked. If you're looking for vendor calls in Alberta, we have them posted here. More will be posted as we get them entered.

I am so excited by this new site. I really hope that it will be the premier spot for finding not only great craft shows, but artists and crafters as well.

New Listing Love

I've been slowly filling my shops up again after Christmas. A couple listings a night. What's really sad is the fact that some of the items I've listed, the pictures were taken a year ago. I'm so bad at listing new things! Trying to get better though. The exciting thing is, once these new items are all listed, I'll need to make new stuff :)

Just wanted to share a couple of my favourites from each shop. I either love the item itself (ok, I love almost 100% of the items I make, it's just something about these ones really speak to me) or I LOVE how the pictures turned out.

Forest Green, Hand Felted Heart Brooch. Love the item, LOVE the picture!

Navy Blue Pincushion Ring on a Silver Button Base. LOVE the style!

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Circle Necklace. LOVE the turquoise used here!

Tropical Fish Necklace. Hand formed frame. LOVE the picture as well as the item.

Jade and Gold Ring. LOVE the Jade.

Copper Ring with Sterling Silver Beads. LOVE the style of this ring!
