New Listings!

Finally got a couple new listings up in the store. For the past month or so, the only advertising I've been doing is relisting old items so it feels good to get a couple new things up.

Intricate Black Stone, Crystal and Pearl Cuff

Amethyst and Clear Quartz Oxidized Sterling Silver Ring

I hope you like!

I'm Back

Hi everyone! I'm back. Sorry I went MIA, school, work and life got a little crazy for a while and I needed to take a break from something before I went mad!

Anyways, like the new look? I'm getting ready for winter and Christmas and now my blog matches my Christmas tree. All silver and blue!

Big news! I'm having a sale! Or, rather, I'm participating in Etsy's Black Friday sale. I'm starting early - tomorrow(!) and running until Tuesday, December 1. Everything in the shop is 20% off! Great deals!

It's the perfect time to pick something out for Christmas! All rings are custom made in the size required - half sizes available too!

Happy shopping!

Scared now...

Just got back from seeing Paranormal Activities with the husband. Squeezed his arm so hard I pinched him. Will be sleeping with the lights on. That is all.

Math test

I don't think that math test went so well :(
I won't find out until next Monday but I'm not feeling to happy about it. When you want to walk away from a test and cry I think it is a sign.
I'll let you know. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I really need to pass this test.

Quick Update

I'm just posting this while on a break from studying math (ugh math).

I managed to sneak some time for myself the other day (around midnight, but who's counting?) and got something new posted!

Here it is! The Show Stopper necklace! It's made of sterling silver wire caged around garnet chips, clear quartz, and peacock freshwater pearls. It is suspended from a sterling silver chain and closed with a lobster clasp.

I love it! Hehe, I'm pretty proud and happy with the way it turned out too.

Also sold and relisted this item! The Forest Cell Phone Charm! It sure was popular!

Ok, I should really get back to studying now. Night everyone!

I'm late, I'm late! For a very important date, No time to say hello, goodbye, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

I feel like the white rabbit sometimes (most times) chasing time. I'm running late again this morning but, dammit, I'm going to have a healthy breakfast. To many days I'm grabbing a wrap at Subway before dashing into the office. I'm then grabbing a quick lunch while there (cause you know I don't have time to make anything!) and then picking something up on the way home for a quick dinner before dashing out for a class in the evening.

Taking 4 classes is just crazy while trying to work full time. I won't be doing that again! No time for homework, not time for study, barely putting in my full day at work and no time for me. I'm feeling pretty worn down right now.

Bah, ok, no more complaining! Going to work on better time management, in the meantime; time for work!

So Very tired these days. Lots to do and never enough time. I've got 4 classes this week (only night off: Thrusday) and I start my new payroll course online this week too. Oh, and I still work full time. The long weekend was delightful but so far in the past it seems. I need another one, lol.

Just checking in briefly to say that I think of you often, and with guilt and hopefully will make some time to post more.

Thank you!

My Graveyard Puns earrins certainly have been a smash hit! Hehe. They have been featured in a couple of different treasuries now and they are currently featured in this blog:

So thank you for helping make them such a success and loving them!

Big News for Frog Princess Designs!

The first bit of news is that I'm now offering free shipping to Canada and the US! I am very excited about this and I am hoping this will help things pick up a bit in my shop. Without the full time devotion to it I had previously been giving it (before classes) my poor store is looking a little neglected.

The second bit of news is that the Alberta Street Team on Etsy is having a sale! Over 50 shops so far have signed up for this sale and I am super excited by this! The last team sale was a huge success in terms of not only sales, but also in viewership and just getting the team name out there. The sale runs from October 3 to 9 and I can't wait!!!

Stay tuned for more updates!

Just a quick update on my classes.

Math class on Monday went ok. Not great - I need to read up on a few things to better understand them - and I need to study like mad for my first test next week! We are doing 3 tests instead of a midterm and a final. That is pretty good I guess. Not so much pressure on the 2 main tests.

Microeconomics last night went well. No homework (except to catch up) and I understood it all. Thank god!!!

Finished my second bezel set ring Tuesday night and I made the ring waaaaaaay to big, lol. It's even to big for my husband! So I am going to take it apart and redo the whole thing. I may need to buy a new stone for it though; hte malachite is looking a bit dull and scratched. Oops. Haha, I also set the bezel crookedly - so I think it's good that I do that! Started reticulation and tube setting last class too. Me, never being able to do the easy choice (like earrings or a pendandt) decided to do another ring. Actually, 2 more rings because of the way I cut the sheet metal after reticulating it. Now I have to pound them out to make them fit a bit better. Finishing this project next class.

The Weekend

The weekend sure has flown by. I was very certain that I'd have time to update my blog and post some new items in my poorly, neglected shop. Not so. Sadly.

I spent my Saturday driving Miss Daisy - I mean my husband, around. Well, really, just 40 km out of town (on the other side of town, of course) out to paintball for a friend's bachelor party.

I definitely think it is time that man got his driver's license.

Of course, being that close to West Edmonton Mall, one must stop in, just to look of course. I swear. I was just looking for shoes. I wasn't planning on buying The fact that I could find anything I liked in my size didn't help. Stupid big foot feet. So I left empty handed or nearly so, i did happen into DeSerres where I found some nice pearls on sale. :D

By the time I got home, it was 6:00pm and too late to even think about being productive so I curled up in my pj's with the BBC series Planet Earth (love it!) and my jewels and doodled around and made some cute little button rings I'm planning on selling at a booth.

Sunday, well, Sunday we went and saw 9. Very well done graphics, story left me wanting more. Love the characters though! We hit Indigo afterwards and went home. I then did 4 hours of math homework, Ugh, math. Fed up, I eventually abandoned the silly stuff for more silly stuff - chick lit. I love a good (or bad), light-hearted, funny romance. They are the cure to a bad day and math.

Speaking of math, as you know I'm taking classes at NAIT. I was taking math on Monday night and computers on Saturday mornings. Well, computers got dropped mostly because, yes, I can turn a computer on and yes, I do know how to move a file. Grr, that was the single most frustrating Saturday morning ever - not the least because I could have been sleeping!

Anyways, dropped computers and picked up microeconomics on Wednesday nights so I now I have classes on Monday, Tuesday (Silversmithing, remember?), and Wednesdays. Yes, I think I've lost my mind

I am very happy though that I was able to get credit for the computer and English classes that I took at Grant MacEwan so, yay! Two less classes I have to take for my Accounting Certificate! Then I move on to the diploma then the degree. It's gonna take a while, but I'm up for it.

Cabochon setting in Silversmithing was awesome! I now have a very pretty onyx and sterling silver ring for myself that I just need to sand and polish up. Tomorrow we finish and I have one more to set - a gorgeous malachite stone. I can't wait! I'll post pictures when done!

Night all!

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Just a quick note to say that the first class of silversmithing was amazing! I made 2 sterling silver thick wire band rings tonight. Next week the instructor is bringing in a stretcher/reducer to actually make the rings we made tonight fit, lol. The one I made fits just right but the other... Well, it is of a much thicker band, so I want it stretched a wee bit to fit my index finger on the right hand.

Of course, it isn't a good class unless someone cuts themselves with the saw, and, what do you know, it was me. Of course. Wade blames my father. Stupid clumsy genes, lol. I am ok, just need a bandaid for my finger.

Next week, cabochon setting! Can't wait!

General Updates

Well, here I am again. The worlds least dedicated blogger checking in. Well, ok, maybe I'm not that bad, but I certainly feel neglectful of you right now. I'll try harder to make time to post.

Let's start back at the beginning and start the update from there.

Wade and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary this past August. August 18th to be exact. He surprised me with flowers at work first thing in the morning. It was lovely, although I think he made our boss a wee bit jealous! (FYI, our boss is a guy!) We were then to go out for sushi for dinner (my favourite) but we decided not to make reservations, because, really how busy would it be? Ha ha, big mistake! We ended up going to 3 different sushi places before we got into one! Right after leaving the first place, the sky broke open and it began to pour. After parking at the final destination, it was a mad dash to the closest door. We rushed into the sushi place and everyone turned around to stare at us crazy people coming in from the storm. Ha ha, it was a lovely day though, rain and all!

I celebrated my 1 year anniversary on Etsy on August 27th. Woohoo! I think Etsy has become a good place for me to sell my jewelry. I enjoy the sense of community and friendship there. My team, the Alberta Street Team, is a wonderful, supportive group of ladies that I am so grateful to have found. Thank you ladies for all your help, support and friendship!

I have been experimenting with some new designs and ideas. These new designs are totally not what I've done to date - usually my stuff is... pretty and ladylike, I guess. This new stuff is quite cute and whimsical. I am making jewelry with coloured copper wire and aluminum wire and buttons! They are really cute. The earrings are being listed on Etsy under a new category called "Holidays". The rings, well I am going to make a bunch of them up and use them for my first table. That's right, I'm going to do a table at a craft sale! Ok, well, I don't know where yet, or when, but I am building up my stock for that time!

This is also the beginning of a new school year. I don't have kids myself, but I am enrolling in night courses again! I began the Accelerated Accounting Certificate program at NAIT last year, but only took one course, Intro to Accounting. I am continuing on with that program this semester and I'm taking Business Math (on Monday nights) and Computerized Information Systems (Saturday mornings, ugh). It's not to bad. I've taken one math class already - I strongly dislike math, urgh. Well, it's all in the name of an education.

It going to take a couple of years, but I'll (hopefully) have 3 certificates under my belt as well as be working towards my Accounting diploma by then, (I already have my Administrative Office Assistant Certificate, I'm working on the afore mentioned Accelerated Accounting Certificate and I am also working on the Payroll Practitioner Certificate through the Canadian Payroll Association. Whew!)

Oh, I'm also taking another class this semester! Luckily, it will be the most fun class of all! I am taking Silversmithing Level 1 that will be offered at a bead and rock store here in Edmonton. I cannot wait for this class!!!

So, I'm going to be very busy, what with all these classes, new designs and a full time job, but I will do my absolute best to post more often, even if it is just one or two lines!

How To: Stumble!

Stumble upon is basically like a blog where all you do is post things that you've found or want people to find on the internet. It is fascinating what people post here. It could be a cool story, news article, picture or website. In our case, it's both a picture (of your item) and a website.

First thing to do is to set up your profile and settings preferences. Change the colour of the background of your page, pick your page layout and say as much (or as little) about yourself as you like. Oh, also select your favourite things or catagories you are interested in.Once you are done this, you are ready to Stumble or submit articles to be Stumbled upon.

First, click on your home button. This will take you to your home page. From here you can do many things. Your page will probably be blank as you do not have any favourites yet. You will fill this with things you "like" and things that you submit to be Stumbled. You can check out what is new, you can check your inbox, see what your friends have submitted recently, check out your groups and, of course, set your preferences.

We are going to Stumble. To do this, we post a new:
  • Site
  • Blog
  • Video, or
  • Picture

Most of what we are going to submit will be sites. Click on site. This will bring out the request for the site URL and any description you wish to add. Select the URK you wish to submit (like an item in your store) and copy and paste it over. Add any description you like. Hit the "Post New Blog" button. You can pick a category you wish to submit this item into, but beware, it might limit the views you get. You must rate the item as either adult content or not and then you Thumbs up it! That's it! You've Stumbled your first item!

It does get addicting - be warned! It is very fun though, to sit and watch the numbers add up on your Heartomatic!

Happy anniversary!

One year and going strong! Today is my one year anniversary on Etsy! I think I've done pretty well there. I've developed my style and techniques into a product that is fun, funky and totally me. I am continuously learning new techniques to diversify myself, and I'm having fun doing it!

In celebration of this milestone, I'm having a one day sale. Today only everything in my store is 25% off!

Happy shopping!

I am alive!

Hehe, well the title says it all. I'm still alive, I'm still here! Sorry I've been so absent - I was on vacation for a week and then I have been in the catch up mode since then. Well, I'm still not caught up on everything, but a girl needs a break every now and then.

So, as some of you might remember, my Nanny (my mom's mother) passed away this past March. It was very sad and hard to take in as we all thought she'd live forever. Well, the main reason for the vacation was to visit Kelowna and attend a memorial for her. Now, my family had a memorial for her after she died. My family in Wales then had a memorial for her when her ashes were buried with her parents there. This was her third memorial and we were all sitting around laughing about the fact that, only Nanny would have three memorials. Just like her, to want us to remember and honour her this many times. Haha.

Let me tell you my favourite memory of her (there are many).

This was after Wade and I moved to Edmonton from Kelowna. We had returned to Kelowna for my cousin's wedding. One night the whole family as well as many family friends were up for dinner. Nanny was sitting with my Great-Grandma K (who also passed away this past spring, in April, just 21 days after Nanny) and Auntie Margret (family friend). (Grandma K is my dad's grandma, btw.) I sat down next to Nanny and offered her a sip of my drink. I was drinking Bacardi Breezers - Pina Colada. (Nanny always insisted that she never drinks, but she'll steal sips from everyone's glass.)

She protested that she doesn't drink but took the bottle and took a sip.

And then another, and said oooh that's nice.

And then she passed it to Grandma K. Grandma K had a sip and agreed it was nice, but not her style of drink; she liked wine.

Well, Nanny took it back from her, and passed my drink on to Auntie Margret to try. Well, wouldn't you know it but Auntie Margret loved it. Said it reminded her of the trip that she and Nanny and their husbands took to Hawaii in the 70s.

They started passing my drink back and forth. I watched, a little shocked (missing my drink, you know) until they turned to me and said, well, don't you have another one for us?!?

Well, my mom and I had to go out then and there to buy two more cases for these two ladies, and wouldn't you know it? there were none left at the end of the night! Haha, so much for not drinking!!

Anyways, the memorial was nice, sad, draining and emotional. I'll tell you more about the trip another day.

Thanks for letting me share this.

Quick note:

I've been included in a lovely denim blue treasury by the wonderful and talented Splurge.

Getting ready for a vacation. The first one, in fact in years. I forgot how much work goes into getting ready for one, haha. Well, I'm looking forward to it very much. I am leaving my shop open for the time we are gone, however I will not be shipping orders until after the 17th when we get back. I am so sorry for the inconvenience.

Not directed to anyone in particular, just to the universe...

I love you.
I care about you.
I wish you all the best.
I have nothing but good thoughts.
I live my life in gratitude and happiness.
I am happy.
Things are going well.
I wish for everything I need and rest quietly knowing it will come.

Sweet dreams.
Good night.
Don't let the bed bugs bite.

Conquering the Beast a.k.a. How to Stuff an Envelope

For those of you who ever get frustrated dealing with Canada Post, I have a super cute Canada Post story for everyone.

My cousin had bought some of my destash stuff from me which was really nice - cause I'd have sent her the stuff for free if she asked. So I messaged her and asked if she wanted more as I have tons of stuff. She told me it was all for her girls (8 and 3) and they love crafts so send whatever I wanted to. So I decided to send her ALL the destash goody packs (there were 4 - 2 small, 2 big) as well as all the other stuff she bought.I decided, having just heard of these things, to send her the stuff in one of those envelopes that, no matter how much you stuff in, it all costs the same amount. Turns out these are Xpresspost envelopes and I will be using those more often! (Can you imagine, I've been doing this for nearly a year and this is the first time I'd heard or these magical envelopes?!?)

I go to my post office and (not knowing what they are called, remember) I asked my postal worker (who is this cute little ole Asian lady) about those envelopes that you can stuff and it all costs the same price. She holds up the larges (and last) Xpresspost envelope. She looks at my stash a little doubtfully, but she sold me the envelope. I move around the counter and start stuffing.I know I am being watched. The store is empty, there is nothing else for her to do. The cashier at the other desk is watching as well. The postal worker, asks about the stuff (as it is all brightly coloured stickers and foamy stickers) and I tell her I am sending it to my cousin for her daughters. At this point, I had the envelope filled with all but one package. It won't fit any more. I have to empty it to start again. The cashier wanders over to see what I am sending. She loves it - and we all reminisce about these stickers and what fun they are. I take apart the large goody bags and squeeze all the air out of the large Ziploc bag they are in. The postal lady jumps in to help zip up the baggy. She helps with the second one. Bemused, she watches me stuff the envelope and squeeze the end shut. I look up at her, she jumps over to grab the end and fold it over. The envelope will close. Quickly, she peels the protective layer from the sticky part and folds it back over.

We have won. We conquered the beast. We have sealed the envelope. Laughing, I leave the store.

Hole moley what a wicked storm last night! The sky was just illuminated by the lightning. It was constant and it knocked out the power! The power went off here about 9:30pm went on for about 2 minutes and then there was an almighty explosion down in the river valley (not to far from us!) and the power went out again. It just came back on about 3 hours ago. That and the wind storm! It was amazing. There are downed trees and branches all over our neighbourhood!

Other than that, had a lovely day yesterday. Wade and I went downtown to the farmers market. It was huge this year! I love it so much. Then we went and wandered the City Centre mall before going and seeing the new Harry Potter movie!! It was so good and I totally recommend the theatre downtown to anyone in Edmonton. It is freshly renovated and totally not crowded at all. It was a lovely day and we ended up getting home about 9:00pm.

I was just coming on here to post, when we heard a commotion in the hallways. It seems some of the tenants upstairs had some friends over and these friends started fighting tooth and nail! They may have been a couple - but all we heard was someone either being pushed or falling down the stairs and the girl was screaming like crazy! We called the police and so did another person in the building. By the time the police got here, the fighting couple had taken off. Just as the police were running upstairs though, a couple from up there slammed out of their apartment and left down the other staircase! It was crazy. Add that to the storm and we had a very interesting night last night!

How well do you think you know someone?

How well do you ever really know anyone? You can spend every day a week with a person talking about inconsequential matters, but does that mean you know them? You can read a person's blog daily and still not know who that person really is.

Let me tell you about me.

I am tall. I am 5'10" and I never liked being this tall. As a woman I feel the constant pressure to be feminine and delicate. I am no delicate rose, let me tell you. I am working hard to accept who I am. I am working on loving myself for who and what I am. I am tall, I am strong and I am damn proud of it.

I am really shy and awkward around other people including family members. This may surprise some people. I seem to always have something to say in any situation. I can fake extroverted behaviour very well. I am constantly thinking though, am I trying to hard? was that really funny? do people really want to hear what I have to say? I am working hard to ignore that rude little voice in my head that tells me these things. I think to myself, yes, what I have to say is worthwhile, I take a deep breathe and speak.

I am learning to think positively. The Secret is helping with this. I will not dwell on the negativity in my life; instead, I will think of all the wonderful things, people, love I have in my life and focus on that instead. As Buddha said, "Be happiness itself". I shall work towards that goal.

I have a wonderful, large family. We are crazy and clumsy and happy together. Some of my family I don't know as well as I would like, but as I grow older, I find myself drawn more and more to them. I am making an effort to be in contact with my family, because I want to know them better.

I have amazing friends. Friends are the family you chose and my little family is fun and eccentric and wonderful. I am so happy to have these (and YOU) people in my life. You make my life happy.

My favourite colour is green. It is the colour of spring, grass and life. I can never be unhappy or depressed around anything green.

I got married in the rain. I wore a black cocktail dress with a green shawl and I was so incredibly happy with the entire day. We later went and had our wedding feast in the park (in the rain). We had a weenie roast. I wouldn't change that day for the world.

I love music. Music is a wonderful way of expressing your thoughts; a great way of expressing what you want to say but can't think of the words yourself. My favourite music is older rock and roll. I feel they had a very sincere message with their music. My favourite songs?
Give a Little Bit ~ Supertramp
Stairway to Heaven ~ Led Zeppelin
Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd
Let it Be & All You Need is Love~ The Beatles

It is strange the little things that make you feel like you know someone a bit better. A favourite song or colour. An insecurity bravely revealed to the world. A brief glimpse into the wedding day.

Does this help, even a bit, help you feel you know me better?

I'm a Poet! (and I didn't even know it!) *

So I made a poem in my Facebook status bar - spur of the moment thing - and I thought I'd share it here with you.

(Jasmin _) is living my life, the best way I know how;
Living in fast forward, but don't have a cow!
Where ever I go, what ever I do,
I'll always find time, to make time for you.

Awww. Yes, yes I am a cheeseball. Deal with it. :)

*Yes I went there.

Incoming Geekiness

Look what I made! Eeeeek!
It is the sale icon for my shop. I changed it to add the text. I am not very good with these graphic programs and the fact that I taught myself how to use Adobe Illustrator to do this sort of thing as well as the banner for my store and blog, well, I am very happy with myself.
My husband is suitably impressed with my geekiness.

It has begun!

Woohoo! I love sales :D

In honour of Canada's birthday, I have decided to run a Canada Day Sale!

June 30th to July 4th, everything in my shop is now 20% off.

*Discount will be given through a Paypal refund.

New Jewelry

Here are some new pieces.

This one took forever to get the motivation up to do. I had the idea for it floating around my head for weeks and I just put it off because I knew it would be a lot of work. It took me a day and a half to do. It is a copper cuff strung with loads of pearls, crystals, shell and stone beads. I absolutely love it!

This is a rose quartz that had been lacquered red before I bought the stone. I thought it was weird, my husband thinks this looks like a hot pepper when worn. This will be going up on Etsy soon :D

The light was getting bad when I took this one, but this is garnet rodinite and hematite drops on a niobium chain. I'll photograph it again and add it to Etsy soon.

Wood and jade earrings.
There is also a matching necklace but I was losing light. Up on Etsy soon.
Sterling silver and carnelian earrings.
Also going on Etsy soon :D

Sunday Musings

Well, another weekend come and gone. A brand new work week starts tomorrow. I sincerely hope this week is less stressful than last week was.

Cleaned the house today. Hopefully it will stay clean for a while! It doesn't take long to do in this tiny apartment, but it is irritating to do. I need a housekeeper, lol in my 500 sq. foot apartment!
Must do some crafting this week. I am running out of new stuff to post. I have 2 more rings to post and a pair of earrings left and then that is it. I'd also like to start making more of the designs I already have. I'd like to start doing craft fairs and the only way I can do that is if I have more stock. It's silly, I have 43+ rings around and they are all one of a kind at the moment.

Time for bed. Night all!

Midterm update

Passed my midterm with 72%. I am just happy I passed and even more happy I remembered to take the darn test. It looks as though a few people in the course didn't remember to do the midterm.

I wonder if they left the course?

Wondering if I should do a Canada Day sale. Hmmm...

*These little guys have been getting some attention lately, so I thought I'd show them some love too.

Updates - My busy life

I gotta say, I am more the laid back, go with the flow, relax, BC mindset kind of girl. I am not into the rush, rush, rush, busy life I've been living these past few days. Things have been crazy busy around here, but I finally have a moment to update my poor neglected blogs!

Work is a constant source of craziness, frustration, and accomplishment. It is going well most days. I like the challenges presented to me - and I like even more that I am able to solve them satisfactorily to my boss' liking. This is a good job for me. One girl, who comes in once in a while, says that it is sad that her best strength is data entry. I said that it is good to know your own strengths. I thought about that for a while and I decided that my biggest strength is solving problems and creating new procedures. I am good at cleaning up other peoples messes. And I like doing that. It is when I am bored and there is no challenge left to a job that I feel it is time to move on.

Well, this past week has been taken up with wedding stuff. I am not in the bridal party, I am just a good friend of the bride. I made her jewelry as well as the jewelry for the bridesmaids (so cute, I thought!). I am already married and I am so glad I got married the way that I did (I'll tell you about it another day) after these past few days. There was so much that needed to be done and so little time to do it all in! Get the dress, get manicures (which I never got, grr) and pedicures, set up the hall, go for the rehearsal dinner - and that was just the day before the wedding! I love my friend dearly, and I sincerely hope they have a wonderful life together - I just know why brides freak out before the wedding now! So stressful!

Well, the bride was beautiful walking down the aisle; the groom choked up a bit at the alter (as expected) and all in all, it was a lovely day once the wedding was under way.

Oh, another thing going on! I am taking an online course all about payroll legislation (yay). I have gotten so far behind with the wedding and work and life, that the midterm is here and completely taken me by surprise! Thankfully, I love to learn (even if the subject matter is drier than dust) so I think I will be ok. I just have to remember to take the test before the end of the week!!!

Frog Princess Designs

Sadly, I have been neglecting my store a wee bit. I have a few new things to post and some reorganizing to do. I am also wanting to do the YART sale - I love sales, lol! I will post with the link to the YART section when I have it all set up.

I will be here more often. Life should start to calm down now. I look forward to getting back to my laid back, relax, BC kind of life.

Yay, Another Monday

Good morning everyone. I am still around I've just not been posting for some reason. I am trying to keep up though!

Got another custom order from Lisa that I appreciate so much! Thanks Lisa! Happy Birthday!!!

I was panicking this weekend. I am taking an online course through the CPA right now. (I am taking the Payroll Legislation course right.) I thought my mid term was this week and I was panicking because I hadn't completed all the chapters that needed to be done for the test! LOL. Well, it isn't until next week and I had better get my butt in gear and start studying!

Happy Monday everyone!! (if that isn't an oxymoron, I don't know what is, lol)

Monday, May 25, 2009

I spent the day yesterday photographing and then listing 20 items in my store. Not anything pretty or shiny though. I listed 20 listings (they may or may not contain multiple parts) in my new destash section. It is all paper and stamps and things that I am just not using. I love to buy this stuff, I really need to start using it or clearing it out to make room for the stuff I am using.

I am pretty pleased with myself for getting it all done on the one hand. On the other hand though, I am annoyed that I can't do that with my regular items in my store. I really need to get better at that.

Anyways, here is the destash link. Check it out and maybe you'll find something you need.

I'm still alive. Just feeling kind of burned out lately. Work is long and difficult at times - it seems like there is so much to do, and not enough time. But I am still alive. I will update more later.

It was snowing in downtown Edmonton this afternoon as I left work. Snowing.

I was wearing sandals and a light sweater. I think my feet were going to fall off if I had to wait much monger for the bus! Brrr. Well, I got home and immediately left again to go pick up a lasagna. There is nothing better for a cold miserable afternoon than lasagna.

Ok, homemade would be better, but I need a good recipe for it. Anyone have a good one?

Looking forward to chat tonight!

Thank you

What a fabulous week it has been. I've said it before, I'll say it again, this group of people on the Etsy Alberta Street Team are the most fabulous people in the world!

Our sale is over and all told, we had 42 shops across Alberta participating in the sale! That is fantastic. I cannot express enough happiness and pleasure this sale has brought me - not from a sellers perspective, but from group dynamic sort of way. Hmm, let me try explain that better! This sale started as a bit of a joke, a longing for sales sort of. We were bouncing the idea around and then one girl started organizing it. Then another volunteered to help and from there it escalated into the aforementioned 42 shops participating.

This whole sale was a wonderful bonding experience. We had a team forum thread for promoting the sale and there was someone on there constantly! In fact, there were many people on there and we ended up filling 133 pages (at 10 posts a page roughly).

That is amazing!

So, thank you. Thank you to you, the readers for coming and checking out the sale. Thank you to everyone who made a purchase. Thank you to my team members who made this so much fun!

Now we need to work on our meet up!

Happy Sunday

Happy Sunday everyone.

I love Sundays - they are the most relaxing day of the week to me but Sunday nights have a bitter-sweet quality to them.

Sunday nights mean that tomorrow is Monday, the beginning of another stressful work week. It used to be, to me, that Sunday nights were a thing of sadness. Work was not a place I wanted to be. But now, maybe because I am a little older and (hopefully) wiser, work is a place to get things done. I feel more accomplished at work - I am using my talents and skills to help and move the company I work for forward. I know there are things at work that I need to do - that only I can do. That fills me with a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of anticipation. I can't wait to get to work so that I, me and no other, can complete these tasks.

Sounds silly. Maybe it is. That is what Sunday nights feel like to me.

PS. I finally photographed all my new jewelry! Look for it to be popping up in my store soon!

*A sneak peak of things to come!

The Secret

Ok, so I know that I am a little late to it, but I am reading the Secret. Ok, I've read the first chapter, but so far, I like what she says. Think positive and you will attract positivity into your life. Think you will be successful, and you will.

This is great. I plan on doing this more. I have even started a journal that I carry with me everywhere. I write in it when I have a moment. I just write simple things, things I am grateful for, things I love at that moment, things I want to attract to my life.

I am grateful for my good friends and new friends, wonderful family, good health, job and the roof over my head.

I want to be successful, a good friend, happy and cheerful.

Things I love at this moment:
My husband
My new necklace form dearange (
My new job

I will try to write down as many thoughts as I can each day. I will write with positivity and passion. I will not write in the negative: that is to say, I won't write my thoughts as "I don't want..." rather, I will say "I want to be..."

What do you love? What are you grateful for?

The Working LIfe

I am torn.

I would absolutely love to not ever have to work for a living. I would much rather stay home and work on my jewelry sales, my Etsy store, developing new products, and organizing for craft sales. However, it absolutely drives me nuts being at home alone all day! I really need human interaction; I need to talk to other people during the day and I especially need to get out of the house daily or I will go stark, raving mad! And none of that is to mention I need the pay cheque! Ha ha!

So what do I do? I get a job, a full time job that helps pay the bills, gets me out of the house and provides more human interaction than my husband can provide. Now, I am thoroughly exhausted, drained and I have no energy or time to create my jewelry, come up with new designs or organize myself for a craft show! It is a catch-22.

I think, I really need to get back into the swing of things (how clique!) and get used to working full time and crafting on the side. Maybe, someday, I will be able to do the one I truly love full time, but until then, I must cope, and not whine about my situation!

The working life sucks.

Easter Sale!

Hello everyone! The job is still going well - things are still very hectic and demanding there but people are seeing that I mean business and the owner knows that I really do have the best intentions for the company as a whole at heart. I really do hope to make a huge difference and I really hope to help move the company forward into better sales and more money!

In other news, I have decided in honour of spring and Easter I am having a weekend sale in my Etsy store! Everything is 15% off - the price difference will be refunded through Paypal. Come and shop, I hope you find something you love!

New Job

Firstly, I got offered a job on Friday, and I started today!!

Holey moley, what a day! I am just exhausted!

I started today. They are pretty lax about the hours people work there and wanted to know if I had a set schedule in mind. I am not so lax about the hours I work and definitely had a schedule in mind - 8-4:30 or so. I do not like working later in the day, I would rather start early and leave early and have some of the evening to myself. They were pleased with that and they hope I might be a good influence on some of the other employees.

So I started today at about 7:45. Really early! Of course, except for the production team, no one gets in that early so I spent some time waiting around with them until I had enough and went upstairs to the offices. I sat in my new office and poked around on the computer, looking at files, reading employee hand outs and stuff. After people started arriving, around 9:30 or so, I finally got some training. I ended up staying late, really late(!) because another girl who used to do parts of my job (but really, was too much of a pushover for the position) came in to train me on a few more things. She will be coming back on Wednesday for more training. I wonder what time she will be in, ha ha!

Talking to the owner of the company before I started, I warned him that I wasn't there to make friends or play nice with anyone. I was there to do a job, and if I had to change the way things were done in order to save the company money or time, I wouldn't hesitate to implement those changes. He was so happy to hear that! He really needs someone who can stand up to his employees and tell them no once in a while. They really take advantage of the poor man, and unfortunately, he brought it all on himself by being to nice and saying yes all the time. Things are going to change for the better around there. I won't be a bitch, but I will not let myself be taken advantage of, especially by a bunch of kids to used to getting their way.

Wish me luck!

I want to know what your hobbies are.

Mine include reading and writing, doodling and painting, creating jewelry and fiddling around with papercrafts, tweeting, blogging, Facebook and the Facebook Fairy application. I am completely and totally addicted to this last one. You grow flowers and herbs in your garden, watering your flowers on time to ensure they don't wilt and levelling your garden up the more you grow. I absolutely love this application!

So, I am curious. What do you do for fun? What fills your spare time? Let me know!

The best day of the week

Sundays are the best day of the week. They are the best day to lazy around in your underwear if you feel like it. Not a lot gets done on a Sunday around here - Saturdays are the get-things-done days.

Take today for instance. We had a lazy morning - ok, I slept most of the morning! After we finally got going, we took a nice drive down to South Edmonton Common were we spent some time shopping in our favourites stores. (Michael's for me, Best Buy for Wade.) Wen then poked around at Chapters for a while then went for a nice, early dinner.

And then, in the middle of dinner, I remembered my friend who was coming over to buy a set of earrings I made for her! Whoops! So, after I dropped Wade off at home, I raced up to Clareview, dropped off the earrings and (finally) made it home to finish off a relaxing Sunday evening with my darling husband.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Good morning ramblings (It's still early, and I'll ramble if I want to!)

Good morning all! One of the best things about being on an Etsy team, I think, is the wonderful feeling of support and companionship you get from all the others in the team. I am a member of the Etsy Alberta Street Team and these ladies are wonderfully supportive and fun. We had our team chat last night and it is so nice to be able to talk to them, joke around with them, and lend (and receive) support when needed. They are wonderful!

I was thinking, partially due to laziness, that I would extend the sale in my shop, at least over the weekend - maybe to the end of the month. It was a lot of work changing all those prices!

I had another interview this morning. This job I really want. :D It is an administrative support position still, but with more accounting and less or rather, no reception! (I don't like reception work.) I hope I get a call back about it. If I am selected or short-listed, there are 2 more interviews to go through - just phone interviews thankfully. I have my fingers crossed!

Sale in my shop!

Happy Monday and what a beautiful day it turned out to be! I had an interview today for a receptionist position in a small company. I don't think that I will like that job. It is too much like my last one and I think I would be bored and screaming inside of 3 months! I have another interview on Wednesday. We will see how that one goes!

As the title of the post says, I am having a sale in my Etsy store. This is (I really can't remember, so we will say it is) my 6 month-aversary from my first listing on Etsy. I put all my rings on sale at 20% off. Have a look!

I changed the prices so I wouldn't have to do a Paypal refund and so that you would be able to see the savings instantly.
Happy Monday everyone!

Sing Like No One is Listening

To start with, I do sing on occasion. I used to go to karaoke on a regular basis with some friends but we hadn't gone in about a year now. I also used to be in choir when I was in elementary school so my parents had been to concerts of mine in the past. They know I sing on occasion.

I called my mom on St. Patrick's Day and sang to her. (Side note: my family all live in Kelowna. My husband and I moved to Edmonton almost 6 years ago now.) My grandma, her mother, had passed away a week before and we are all still a little upset by it. Nanny's (my grandma) favourite song was "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" so I found the lyrics and the tune online and learned the words.

I thought about calling my mom at work and singing to her there but I was to nervous to do that. I thought about calling home and leaving a voicemail, but someone was on the line. So I called her in the evening after she got home from work. We talked for a bit and then I asked her if she wanted to hear what I learned that day. She agreed and so I took a deep breath and started to sing. My mom was silent all through the first verse. When I started the chorus she went Oh! when she realized what song I was singing. I couldn't finish as I started laughing about then. I explained that I wanted to remember Nanny and that this was one of her favourite songs so I thought I'd learn it in her memory. Mom was very happy and said that it made her day.

There's a tear in your eye, And I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such pow'r in your smile, Sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's Like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be;
You should laugh all the while And all other times smile,
And now, smile a smile for me.

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone out there! I love this holiday. When I was a kid it was an excuse to dress up in all sorts of fantastic costumes and clothes. In grade 3 I went to school in a lime green blouse and grass green pants. In grade 3, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. (Of course, for every day clothes I wore neon yellow pants and a sunshine tee-shirt! I was a bright child, hehe.) One year I forgot to wear green and I panicked. My mother told me to tell everyone who asked why I wasn't wearing green that I was wearing green underpants. I loved it!

The other great thing about St. Patrick's Day that I love and cherish now is that it introduced me to Irish folklore and Celtic fairy tales. I looked forward to that part of the year so much when I was in elementary school. "Stone Soup" is still one of my favourite tales to this day. This introduction has lead to a lifetime love of fairy tales and folklore and I think I am all the better for it. It brings a little magic into my life and I believe we all need a little magic. This is what I try to bring into my jewelry making and my art. Just a hint of something whimsical or delightful.

So Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. Enjoy the green beer, laugh lots and watch out for leprechauns.

And yes I am wearing green. It's on my underpants.

Beautiful Day

I first wanted to start by saying welcome to all my new readers and thank you so much for your interest in my giveaway! This post is the one you need to leave your comments in to be entered into the draw for the ring. I really look forward to the draw!

What a great day it has been so far. I have accomplished so many things already today. I have applied for about 15 jobs, gone for a walk, got coffee and gone grocery shopping all by 2:00 pm! I feel quite good about today. I just need to finish job hunting - I have now moved on to another site as I have applied for all the ones I am interested in on - and post some new items on Etsy.

I hope everyone else has such a good day as I have!

* Not the best picture I've taken, but this is the sample ring I have made for a customer. Cherry quartz and copper for now and if she likes it it will be in gold.

My First Giveaway - Ends March 21, 2009

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday photographing all the new jewelry I have made in the past two weeks or so. I am very pleased with how well the pictures turned out. It is all a matter of getting the right light I now know. Photos can look good when you are taking the pictures in the kitchen with a daylight bulb, but they look amazing when taken in proper daylight. For instance, in front of a north facing window in the late afternoon sun. Truly amazing.

To commemorate this epiphany , I have decided to post my first giveaway. The ring shown, is the prize. This ring, I should add, is sterling silver and Swarovski crystals in pinks and black. All you have to do is follow my blog, and comment to let me know you have added me. Everyones name will go into the hat and I will have my husband draw a name!

The draw will be done March 22, 2009 and I will post the winner then. I will also message you!

What’s In A Name?

“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” ~ Shakespeare

Where does the name Frog Princess Designs come from? Well it began with a stuffie. A Valentine’s stuffie of a frog holding a heart. It wears a crown. I bought this frog, one of a million novelty stuffed animals that are around for Valentine’s Day, as a gag gift for my husband about 4 years ago now.

I gave it to my husband and he gave a strange look, and asked me, "Does this mean I am a prince?"

I laughed at him and said, "A prince in disguise! My Frog Prince!"

Since that time, this has been a running joke between us, he is my Frog Prince and I am the Frog Princess. When it came time to name my venture, there were other options (Fairy Tale Designs, Fairy Princess, Jewelry by Jasmin) but one name kept popping out to me, Frog Princess Designs.

And that is where the name comes from.

Quick Intro Post

Hi, my name is Jasmin. I'll be your hostess for the duration. I am a fun, funky, fabulous female married to the love of my life, Wade. We live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada along with the cat, Thomas. We live in a teeny, tiny apartment by the river valley which is a beautiful part of the city to live in. There are trees and wildlife all around and within walking distance is the fun and amazing Whyte Avenue - a terrific shopping destination!

I am currently unemployed - but still looking for work. In the meantime, I create many pretty and neat things. My main distraction is jewelry making. I love making my own jewelry. I got started (again - I used to make many things when I was younger) when I decided I wanted to make myself a bracelet because I could never find any in my size. I started making stretchy bracelets and that evolved into bracelets with toggle clasps and necklaces and eventually into wire working.

My main form of jewelry making now is wire working. I use mostly copper and sterling silver wire.
My main focus these days are wire wrapped bracelets and cluster rings. I love making these items and that evolved into selling them to friends and family. I thought that maybe I could make a living - or at least suppliment my income - making and selling my jewelry so I opened my Etsy store. I have sold a few things so far, and this encourages me to continue.

I do other crafts from time to time too so don't be alarmed to see cards, collages and maybe even a scrapbook page on here every once in a while.
