The best day of the week

Sundays are the best day of the week. They are the best day to lazy around in your underwear if you feel like it. Not a lot gets done on a Sunday around here - Saturdays are the get-things-done days.

Take today for instance. We had a lazy morning - ok, I slept most of the morning! After we finally got going, we took a nice drive down to South Edmonton Common were we spent some time shopping in our favourites stores. (Michael's for me, Best Buy for Wade.) Wen then poked around at Chapters for a while then went for a nice, early dinner.

And then, in the middle of dinner, I remembered my friend who was coming over to buy a set of earrings I made for her! Whoops! So, after I dropped Wade off at home, I raced up to Clareview, dropped off the earrings and (finally) made it home to finish off a relaxing Sunday evening with my darling husband.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Good morning ramblings (It's still early, and I'll ramble if I want to!)

Good morning all! One of the best things about being on an Etsy team, I think, is the wonderful feeling of support and companionship you get from all the others in the team. I am a member of the Etsy Alberta Street Team and these ladies are wonderfully supportive and fun. We had our team chat last night and it is so nice to be able to talk to them, joke around with them, and lend (and receive) support when needed. They are wonderful!

I was thinking, partially due to laziness, that I would extend the sale in my shop, at least over the weekend - maybe to the end of the month. It was a lot of work changing all those prices!

I had another interview this morning. This job I really want. :D It is an administrative support position still, but with more accounting and less or rather, no reception! (I don't like reception work.) I hope I get a call back about it. If I am selected or short-listed, there are 2 more interviews to go through - just phone interviews thankfully. I have my fingers crossed!

Sale in my shop!

Happy Monday and what a beautiful day it turned out to be! I had an interview today for a receptionist position in a small company. I don't think that I will like that job. It is too much like my last one and I think I would be bored and screaming inside of 3 months! I have another interview on Wednesday. We will see how that one goes!

As the title of the post says, I am having a sale in my Etsy store. This is (I really can't remember, so we will say it is) my 6 month-aversary from my first listing on Etsy. I put all my rings on sale at 20% off. Have a look! http://www.frogprincessdesigns.etsy.com/

I changed the prices so I wouldn't have to do a Paypal refund and so that you would be able to see the savings instantly.
Happy Monday everyone!

Sing Like No One is Listening

To start with, I do sing on occasion. I used to go to karaoke on a regular basis with some friends but we hadn't gone in about a year now. I also used to be in choir when I was in elementary school so my parents had been to concerts of mine in the past. They know I sing on occasion.

I called my mom on St. Patrick's Day and sang to her. (Side note: my family all live in Kelowna. My husband and I moved to Edmonton almost 6 years ago now.) My grandma, her mother, had passed away a week before and we are all still a little upset by it. Nanny's (my grandma) favourite song was "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" so I found the lyrics and the tune online and learned the words.

I thought about calling my mom at work and singing to her there but I was to nervous to do that. I thought about calling home and leaving a voicemail, but someone was on the line. So I called her in the evening after she got home from work. We talked for a bit and then I asked her if she wanted to hear what I learned that day. She agreed and so I took a deep breath and started to sing. My mom was silent all through the first verse. When I started the chorus she went Oh! when she realized what song I was singing. I couldn't finish as I started laughing about then. I explained that I wanted to remember Nanny and that this was one of her favourite songs so I thought I'd learn it in her memory. Mom was very happy and said that it made her day.

There's a tear in your eye, And I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such pow'r in your smile, Sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's Like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be;
You should laugh all the while And all other times smile,
And now, smile a smile for me.

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone out there! I love this holiday. When I was a kid it was an excuse to dress up in all sorts of fantastic costumes and clothes. In grade 3 I went to school in a lime green blouse and grass green pants. In grade 3, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. (Of course, for every day clothes I wore neon yellow pants and a sunshine tee-shirt! I was a bright child, hehe.) One year I forgot to wear green and I panicked. My mother told me to tell everyone who asked why I wasn't wearing green that I was wearing green underpants. I loved it!

The other great thing about St. Patrick's Day that I love and cherish now is that it introduced me to Irish folklore and Celtic fairy tales. I looked forward to that part of the year so much when I was in elementary school. "Stone Soup" is still one of my favourite tales to this day. This introduction has lead to a lifetime love of fairy tales and folklore and I think I am all the better for it. It brings a little magic into my life and I believe we all need a little magic. This is what I try to bring into my jewelry making and my art. Just a hint of something whimsical or delightful.

So Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. Enjoy the green beer, laugh lots and watch out for leprechauns.

And yes I am wearing green. It's on my underpants.

Beautiful Day

I first wanted to start by saying welcome to all my new readers and thank you so much for your interest in my giveaway! This post is the one you need to leave your comments in to be entered into the draw for the ring. I really look forward to the draw!

What a great day it has been so far. I have accomplished so many things already today. I have applied for about 15 jobs, gone for a walk, got coffee and gone grocery shopping all by 2:00 pm! I feel quite good about today. I just need to finish job hunting - I have now moved on to another site as I have applied for all the ones I am interested in on http://www.working.com/ - and post some new items on Etsy.

I hope everyone else has such a good day as I have!

* Not the best picture I've taken, but this is the sample ring I have made for a customer. Cherry quartz and copper for now and if she likes it it will be in gold.

My First Giveaway - Ends March 21, 2009

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday photographing all the new jewelry I have made in the past two weeks or so. I am very pleased with how well the pictures turned out. It is all a matter of getting the right light I now know. Photos can look good when you are taking the pictures in the kitchen with a daylight bulb, but they look amazing when taken in proper daylight. For instance, in front of a north facing window in the late afternoon sun. Truly amazing.

To commemorate this epiphany , I have decided to post my first giveaway. The ring shown, is the prize. This ring, I should add, is sterling silver and Swarovski crystals in pinks and black. All you have to do is follow my blog, and comment to let me know you have added me. Everyones name will go into the hat and I will have my husband draw a name!

The draw will be done March 22, 2009 and I will post the winner then. I will also message you!

What’s In A Name?

“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” ~ Shakespeare

Where does the name Frog Princess Designs come from? Well it began with a stuffie. A Valentine’s stuffie of a frog holding a heart. It wears a crown. I bought this frog, one of a million novelty stuffed animals that are around for Valentine’s Day, as a gag gift for my husband about 4 years ago now.

I gave it to my husband and he gave a strange look, and asked me, "Does this mean I am a prince?"

I laughed at him and said, "A prince in disguise! My Frog Prince!"

Since that time, this has been a running joke between us, he is my Frog Prince and I am the Frog Princess. When it came time to name my venture, there were other options (Fairy Tale Designs, Fairy Princess, Jewelry by Jasmin) but one name kept popping out to me, Frog Princess Designs.

And that is where the name comes from.

Quick Intro Post

Hi, my name is Jasmin. I'll be your hostess for the duration. I am a fun, funky, fabulous female married to the love of my life, Wade. We live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada along with the cat, Thomas. We live in a teeny, tiny apartment by the river valley which is a beautiful part of the city to live in. There are trees and wildlife all around and within walking distance is the fun and amazing Whyte Avenue - a terrific shopping destination!

I am currently unemployed - but still looking for work. In the meantime, I create many pretty and neat things. My main distraction is jewelry making. I love making my own jewelry. I got started (again - I used to make many things when I was younger) when I decided I wanted to make myself a bracelet because I could never find any in my size. I started making stretchy bracelets and that evolved into bracelets with toggle clasps and necklaces and eventually into wire working.

My main form of jewelry making now is wire working. I use mostly copper and sterling silver wire.
My main focus these days are wire wrapped bracelets and cluster rings. I love making these items and that evolved into selling them to friends and family. I thought that maybe I could make a living - or at least suppliment my income - making and selling my jewelry so I opened my Etsy store. I have sold a few things so far, and this encourages me to continue.

I do other crafts from time to time too so don't be alarmed to see cards, collages and maybe even a scrapbook page on here every once in a while.
